Closing Night

Closing Night- written by me at age 14
Voices of people fill the air

As you and the rest begin to prepare

Behind the scenes where no one can see

You take your place so quietly

               With make-up on

               And costume ready

               The excitement strong

               The heart beat steady

               The whispers are hushed

               As the lights become low

               You wait for the signal

               It's time to go

               You hear your cue

               The spot light's on you

               The show has begun

               And so has the fun

Then all too soon it's over and done

               The cast takes their bows

               The audience cheers

               It is quite a thrill

But there are a few tears

               It's all over

               You want to cry

               It's not very easy

               To say goodbye

               The cast is a family

               You've grown to adore

               But one by one

               They walk out the door

               The stage has been cleared

               The excitement disappeared

But there's no need to pack

For theatre will always come back

                                                  Dec. 23, 1995
